Sardinia 2012

Week one

The first nights on our trip we stayed on Sant Antioco, Patrick had some nice surf and windsurf sessions, we met some locals and relaxed.

After two days we went to Cagliari to see our friends Francesca and Luca, to go shopping and see the city. After this we went to Chia, some Sirocco was about to come and Patrick wanted to go windsurfing.

There it was so wet and salty, the wind was not the best, so after two days we decided to go back to Sant Antioco and relax there over the weekend.

Now we are in Iglesias and later we will decide were to go next.

Week two

Iglesias is a very nice little town, surrounded by woods and when we passed, we decided that we have to go back here one day to spend an evening, walk around, have a beer in a bar. But not today, so we left and took the road direction Capo Pecora. And wow, what a road, curve after curve, downhill, uphill, and all around there is....woods, plants.....the sun was setting, the fog came in, the rain started and it was just a beautiful ride. Before we came to Flumminimaggiore, an also very sweet little village in the middle of nowhere with one bar after the other and half the village on the streets socializing, we discovered some water and filled up our tanks.

When we got to Capo Pecora it was already dark, but since we have already been there, we knew exactly where we wanted to go to stay for the night. The next day we woke up to some beautiful sights, clouds all around and lightning far away. It rained a bit but the next four days we spent at this beautiful place were sunny and hot. We went for a swim every day and just relaxed and enjoyed our free time with reading, good food and some yoga!!!

The weekend we spent in different places, Patrick went surfing and windsurfing, it rained a lot but today the sun came out again.

Week three and four

The last two weeks we spent pretty much riding around, checking out places and enjoying the beauty of Sardinia.

We visited a "Nuraghe", which is an old stone "house" in which the people lived here on Sardinia a long time ago.

In the north of Oristano you will find San Leonardo de siete Fuentes, a village up in the mountains with drinking water coming directly from the mountains. It is said that this water is as holy as the spring in Lourdes and has the ability to heal people. It is a wonderful place and there we filled up every empty bottle we could find.

After this we went to Fordongianus, where is an ancient roman hot spring, we visited the hot baths and took a look at the archeological site.

We stayed the night close to the village at a little place where in the morning the sheep’s passed to get some water from the nearby waterbassin. Here Patrick talked to an old man who was picking some things from the grass, what he was picking and the answer was: "Mushrooms".

So when we saw the next time a field with lots of grass on it, we walked along and picked our own nice tasting wild Champignons!!! Sardinia is just great!!!

On our way back to the south we passed by the "Cascata de Spandula", a very pretty waterfall with also said to be very good drinking water. When we took a walk with Maya in the hills, we discovered a plant with some nice red, orange and yellow fruits on it. Since we didn’t know what kind of plant it is, we decided to better not try. But in the end, Patrick could not hold himself back and tried one fruit. He felt like being on a trip straight away :-) Later on in the little bar at the parking of the waterfall, we asked and old man what kind of fruit it was and he told us it is the "Strawberry tree fruit" and that you could eat them. And suddenly Patrick’s trip was gone as fast as it came.

So the next time we saw a tree, we picked some fruits and tried. They are sweet, but some are a little flowery tasting, but in general they taste quite good.

After we spent a very stressful day in Cagliari, not finding the places where we wanted to go and then when we found them…there was no parking!!!!!.......we drove all the way to the east coast at night, in the rain, on a road too small for two cars to be passing and winding itself around the mountains…..what a trip. But we made it and found a sleeping place on a beach where in the morning Patrick discovered it was not allowed to bring your own umbrella!!!This must be a beach only for the rich.

Since Patrick is checking the wind and waves forecast about ten times a day, we got around quite a lot, going from one place to another, and then the next day back to the place we were the day before, spending the night there in the hope of getting some wind the next morning, but well, there was not, so we drove all the way back to get where we are now. And hopefully this time the forecast is right and we get some nice surf tomorrow. So far it looks good.

Week five, six and seven

Since three weeks we are not alone anymore. Its a nice thing to travela round with friends. We had some lovely days, the weather had been great, but now it is been raining on and off and cold for about a week. The wind is blowing at the moment and Patrick had some very nice Windsurfsessions.

Since it is getting cold we are ready to leave Sardinia to go further south...we need some warmth!!!

We will see what comes next.
